My name is Matthew Rethorn and I teach ESL level 4, Academic Language Development and reading intervention in the DRD program. I possess an undergraduate degree in Latin American, Caribbean and Iberian Studies with an emphasis in history and a master's degree in Language, Literacy and Sociocultural Studies with an emphasis in bilingual education. I am Tier I certified in Project GLAD.
My personal standards in the classroom are for students to show respect, make good decisions, and solve problems. I value biliteracy and do my best to strategically promote students' first language while developing their English. Through units focused on the local history and ecology of the El Paso community, we will zero in on literacy development and concept formation.
